Mark Zuckerberg writes, “Starting today, you can access the same WhatsApp account on up to four phones.”
Users have long been dissatisfied with the fact that they can only use one WhatsApp account on one phone at a time.
“You can verify your WhatsApp account with just one registered phone number. Please be aware that even if your phone has two SIM slots, WhatsApp still requires you to enter one number for verification. According to the WhatsApp FAQs, it is not possible to have two confirmed WhatsApp accounts with distinct phone numbers.
The Meta CEO made the following announcement on Facebook: “Starting today, you can log into the same WhatsApp account on up to four phones.”
However, users can already connect up to four devices to their main phone at once in order to access WhatsApp on the web, Android tablets, companion phones, and other devices.
The new function, which will enable users’ communications to be synced across devices including other phones, will be made available to all users over the next few weeks, claims WhatsApp.
Therefore, users will still be able to access the app on other devices even if one device is turned off.
One of the most popular messaging applications is WhatsApp, which has more than 2 billion users. The fact that it fully supported end-to-end encryption for calls and chats, however, prevented it from supporting multiple phones.
However, the business began testing multi-device compatibility with a small number of beta users back in 2021.
Two years ago, Meta, formerly Facebook, declared that it had created new technology that would allow users to sync messages between devices without jeopardizing end-to-end encryption security.
Competitors of WhatsApp like Telegram and Messenger already provide multi-device message synchronization, but they lacked functionality for end-to-end encryption.
The following year, WhatsApp made its multi-device capability available to everyone, but it only supported one phone.
WhatsApp is also introducing a brand-new one-time code method for connecting devices.
In a blog post, the business explained: “Instead of scanning a QR code with your phone to link devices, you can now acquire a one-time-use code by entering your cell number on WhatsApp Web. In the future, we’ll expand the connected devices for which this feature is available.
